France - High Saturated Fat Diet Low Heart Attack Levels Why?

396545385 France is well known for its peoples love of high fat cheeses, butter & almost everything we are told is bad (not into transfats tho') yet heart problems are very low in their overall health. What are we doing wrong in UK?

  1. Bebe - This is known as the "French Paradox".

    Various factors are suggested:
    - the french consume more good fats/oils than bad fats (hydrogenated and trans fats)
    - mindful eating: eating smaller portions and eating more slowly, enjoying the food & company, not eating in front of the TV, not grazing on-the-go
    - lower sugar intake
    - less snacking
    - moderate consumption of red wine (contains resvertrol) which is linked to longevity, cancer prevention, anti-aging and a boost to cardiovascular health
    - avoidance of common American food items, such as soda, deep-fried foods, snack foods, and especially prepared foods
    - more natural/tradition foods, less processed, pre-packaged, artificially preserved and flavored food .
