im 17 years old and im getting braces on soon..I have very crowded teeth and a large overbite. Im worried that i might need over things besides braces. Do you think i would need other appliances beside braces? I was also wondering how do they put braces on and what are the spacers for. I forgot to ask my ortho these questions because I was nervous
lexi - hey,i got my braces today
ReplyDeletei will be having elastic bands to help with my overbite and a spring to mke more space for a tooth
when putting braces on all they do is clean ur teeth and if needed file them but then add the cement/glue and add brackets on one half(top and bottom) and shine a blue light to dry the glue and then they do other side the exact same way once thats done they apply the wire and colours(if u cud choose colours) and thats it really very simple and easy
it feels really weird and can b painful
GOOD LUCK
Tom - Hi there, I just got braces about two weeks ago. I haven't got a overbite or crowding, but I have a brace called the Damon system, which widens the palate automatically. If it is the normal brace, you may need a palate widener. When you go, pluck the courage up to ask, he or she won't mind telling you. The fitting is fine, they clean your teeth first, by polishing them, and wash them with a high jet of water. Then he or she will apply a little bit of glue onto each tooth and attach the little brackets. Once these are fitted, the wire is put through and then on the Damon, the gate is closed and on traditional ones, tied off. The last bit may be painful due to the immediate pressure, but it will ease off over the next two days. They will be sensitive for about a week, but just eat lightly and go straight to the back. I don't think I have spacers, I don't know, but if I do, they just fit on, and aren't painful. I didn't notice! Have you had any teeth out, because if they are crowded, you may need some out.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry though but I will warn you that they are sensitive for a few days! I'm pleased with mine and you get used to them and my orthodontist just took a moulding for a gum shield and they are fine. He had braces a few years back and knows what it is like. Don't worry! Good luck! :)
Guy - They might give you an expander if your teeth are really overcrowded but its nothing to worry about and the spacers make room in the back of your mouth so that they can put this main bracket on the first molar that holds the wire in place.
ReplyDeleteThey cement brackets on every tooth and then put a wire on, and then they'll trim it. Your teeth will hurt for a couple days just dont touch the wire.
