My child has been having runny noses for the last few years for no reason at all. He's been trying all sorts of meds that haven't been working. We've tried all sorts of remedies and things and nothing works. What kind of tests will the allergist do at the appointment on Monday? He is AFRAID of needles! Should this be something he should be prepared for? thanks
Jeffrey Young - Its kind of like the old TB test, take a tiny bit of skin and see how it reacts to the different allergines. I had to do it a month ago because i have extereme post nasal drip. Its not quite as bad as it sounds
ReplyDeleteP.s im 13 and im afraid of needles too, but its not that scary
SJS - It's not a needle. What the allergist will do is bring in a bunch of vials with common allergens. One drop of each vial will be placed on his arm (Most likely). Then he/she will bring out this little device that sort of tears the skin. But that's a bit dramatic, it's just a fling of the wrist that break the outer skin. This might be a bit too dramatic for a child. It really doesn't hurt, maybe a little prick here and there, but I can definitely see a kid panicking. No blood though.
ReplyDeleteFor me, the worst part came after. His arm will swell at any identifiable allergies. You have to sit there and wait for a reaction, and man does your arm itch while this is happening. He will probably be fighting you not to wipe it off.
