LaAn - Shell fish is not the same as fish, and you're not supposed to eat SHELLFISH when you have high cholesterol. Normal fish is fine.
I don't know about flax, but grapefruit has been known to greatly reduce cholesterol. In fact, you're not supposed to eat it if you're on the medication.
McGee - Supplements can affect the cholesterol some, but they can't remove it. You have to understand what causes cholesterol before you can take steps to remove it.
Cholesterol is a symptom of chronic dehydration.
When you don't drink enough water (or you drink water substitutes such as soft drinks, coffee and others that contribute to dehydration) the blood turns acidic. Passing through the lungs, more water is lost through respiration (breathe on a mirror to see this water loss). As the acidic blood enters the arteries it is under a high shearing pressure that creates damage to the lining in the form of tiny cuts and abrasions.
To prevent this damage from peeling away and causing embolisms in the brain or other organ, cholesterol is produced to cover and protect the damage like a waterproof bandage until it can heal. Thus, cholesterol is a life-saving substance.
But the medical profession doesn't recognize dehydration as the cause of health problems, so the dehydration goes untreated. This allows the problem to worsen, which triggers the buildup of more and more cholesterol.
Cholesterol is tested for by taking a blood sample from a vein in the arm. Yet, there has never been a case where the veins have ever become clogged. Venous blood moves much slower than arterial blood and would thus be more inclined to become blocked if the assumption of the so-called "bad" cholesterol is correct.
To lower your cholesterol, all you need to do is to increase your water intake and also your salt intake. Salt is a vital nutrient in the body and it helps to retain water. Contrary to the dangerous myths, it does not cause high blood pressure.
Refer to the link below for more info on how to correct your dehydration. Once the dehydration is corrected, the cholesterol will dissolve.
Tigger - Ground flax seed and flax oil is good for lots of things. Mackerel, tuna, salmon, sturgeon, mullet, bluefish, anchovy, sardines, herring, trout, and menhaden are the fish with omega 3 fish oils, not shell fish...
