Why Am I Not Losing Any Weight?

396545382 Im 18 yrs old, 5'7, and I weight 246.4 lbs. Ive been working out with Jillian Michaels 40 minute circuit training(minimal rest), Burn fat boost metabolism dvd. It burns about 600 cals. I do this workout 5 times a week every early morning. I love this workout. Im getting super toned and my abs are super hard. I sweat SOOO much, so I know im burning calories. Im to the point where I can go through the whole dvd without taking a breather. which is very good. But i find that Im not losing weight at all. I stay at 246lbs then i go down to 245 and the back to 246. It says that you can lose up to 5lbs a week, although, I believe in taking my time with weight loss. So im not trying to rush. Its really annoying because I used this dvd back when i was 15-16 and I lost alot of weight. I went down from 240 to 206. I gained it back obviously due to lots of stress with school and problems at home. Everythings fine now. Anyways, I just dont know what Im doing wrong this time. Could it be my diet? I dnt eat a whole lot..but when I do, I eat fruit and veggies, turkey sandwiches with romaine lettuce and swiss cheese on whole grain bread. I cut out white foods like rice and pasta. I drink 8 cups of water, 2 cups of milk daily. I also drink green tea often. Im going to try out fish..im not a fish person, but Im going to try Tilapia. Is that a good choice?

what should I be eating? And what do u think I am doing wrong? Maybe Im not working out enough? This is bugging me cause Im working SO hard.

thank you!!

  1. James - I can't offer much in the way of what is going wrong but for nutrition why not try this site:

    http://www.japanese-food-for-health.com/index.html

The more I learn about Japan the more I like.. People there are crazy healthy and their food is super easy to make ( like miso soup...). I mostly got started because of the Manga and it went from that to learning some Japanese to eating their food.

EDIT: For them it's all about eating small amounts as a way to control weight so maybe look at how much food you take in? If calories in are less than calories out you will lose weight for sure.

  2. maddy k - Tilapia is great---usually only 100cals/serving!

But this is a problem many people come across--you're gaining lots of muscle weight (WHICH IS NOT BAD) as you lose fat weight, and muscles do weigh more than fat.

but just be patient, the more muscles you have, the more calories they burn even when you're resting. You've probably hit a plateau, but it will go away soon, as long as you keep up the awesome work. You sound like you are really excited and going strong in this weight loss, and it will pay off!

    Keep it going, girl! :-)

  3. Zoe - Hey there,

The workout sounds awesome. Here's some tips for your weight loss.

    1. What you need to do is change your workouts frequently. Try to do something completely different every week. Your body will adapt to exercise and food if you stick to the same things. Sounds like your body has adapted to the training and now your not getting the maximum results. Don't forget cardio exercise like running, bike riding, walking etc. Something that gets your heart rate up.

    2. Muscle weighs double the amount that fat does BUT takes up less space. That means you could be gaining lean muscle mass and losing fat. Check your clothing. See if it feels looser.

    3. Strength/Weight train at least 3 times per week to build lean muscle. Muscle is metabolically active and requires energy. The more lean muscle you have the higher your metabolism. Don't worry it's impossible for you to look like a body builder without drugs and intense training.

    4. Cut out all soda and sugar from your diet. And DO NOT drink diet drinks. Snack on nuts instead of chocolate as they are proven to help in weight loss. Make sure you're getting enough lean protein and eat fruit or vegetables at your 3 meals per day. Remember to feed your body 5 - 6 small meals per day. 3 meals (protein and vegetables) and 2 smaller snack meals. Try not to salt your food. Refined salt tricks your body into retaining water and refined sugar helps your body to gain weight.

Ok hun hope that helps!! Try it out :)

  4. Susan Yarrawonga - Losing 10 lbs a month is a good and safe target. Any faster weight loss is likely to be temporary only and in most cases you regain it all.

Running, jogging, cycling, swimming, dancing, push ups, sit ups, squats, brisk walking and power walking all help for weight loss but dieting helps more.

One of the healthiest weight loss diets is the DASH diet.

The healthy DASH diet can help you lose weight safely and effectively, lower your cholesterol and lower your blood pressure.

It is based on an eating plan rich in fruits and vegetables, and low-fat or non-fat dairy, with whole grains. It is a high fiber, low to moderate fat diet, and is rich in potassium, calcium, and magnesium.

You can see further details in a web search for "dash diet" + "lose weight".
