If I Have Had High Blood Sugar For The Past Few Days, Do I Have Diabetes?

396545384 Or could it be something I ate? I haven't been exercising regularly for this week. I've been stressed out with exams at school. Is it me or just an environmental thing?

  1. Gary B - Not necessarily.

Diabetes is when your blood sugar is high for WEEKS or MONTHS.

A couple of day is a bad diet. Cut back on sugars and soda pop.

Check again in a couple of days.

  2. TheOrange Evil - Certain medications and illnesses can temporarily elevate blood sugar in non-diabetics, but if you are neither ill nor on any type of medication known for raising blood sugar, then the odds are that you just have diabetes. Of course, you haven't said how high your blood sugar has been or what you used to test your blood sugar, so I'm just assuming at this point that you know what blood sugar should be in a person without diabetes and that you conducted the test correctly.

In a non-diabetic, food and lack of exercise do not raise blood sugar into diabetic levels. Stress can raise blood sugar in diabetics, but non-diabetics can produce enough insulin to offset the effects.

This all needs to be verified with your doctor, but if you are displaying a pattern of high blood sugar, then it's time to make an appointment. Your doctor can run an HbA1c, which is a three-month average of blood sugar levels. That will tell you whether your blood sugar has been running high for a while or whether this appears to be recent.

  3. Tabea - How high? It would help if you gave the figures, and also specified when they were taken. The correct time to test is 2 hours after eating.
