My mom has Breast Cancer and now i am only a teen and have to be tested to see if i have it. How do they test for it? Also I believe but I am not sure that the doctors said it runs through my family to have breast cancer. Thanks!
Denisedds - Mammograms are used to test for breast cancer, but they are not done on teenagers. No doctor would ever tell a teenager they need to test for breast cancer.
None - Teenager shouldn't need to be tested, however, a mammogram could be used. Be sure to tell anyone if you notice any lumps, though teenagers need not worry.
Tarkarri - A teen is unlikely to be tested for breast cancer.
If your mother's cancer was caused by the BRAC gene, then you may be having a genetic test to see if you also carry this gene.
If that is the case, it is just a blood test.
Otherwise, you are not considered to be at increased risk until 10 years younger than the age your mother was when diagnosed, when increased monitoring will start.
