Uterine Polyp Confusion?

396545116 Hi all,

I will try to explain this as best as I can. After 2 miscarriages, last year we decided it was time to look into the problem. DH and I were living overseas in the US and went to see a RE, did hormone testing, all came back fine and also did a HSG, tubes were clear but the doctor noticed a Polyp, a large one at that. So that's when we knew what the problem was, set up an appointment to get it removed, but due to a big mess up at the Hospital an hour before the procedure, we had it cancelled. Now fast forward and we are back in the UK, met with the Gyno here, showed him my results from the results from the HSG in the US, and he set me up with an appointment for a Ultrasound and a TransVaginal scan, he wanted to have a look at the polyp again and see the position and size. I was just in for the 2 scans this week and after being in there for about 40 mins, the Sonologist could not find the polyp, she searched high and low and was puzzled that she could not see it. I have a picture from my RE in the US of the polyp when it was discovered and it was huge, it practically covered half of my uterus, and explained this to the Sonologist, but all she could find was a fibroid, which was 2 millimetres in size.DH and I also saw for ourselves and there was nothing there, all clear. Of course we were happy and I was relieved by this news. But, I am just so confused right now, I contacted my doctor in the US regarding the 2 ultrasounds I did here ( I have an appointment with my doctor here in the UK at the end of this month) and she said to me that she thought that was not a good way of detecting a Polyp, she explained to me that a polyp is almost see through and it would not show up on a US or a TransVaginal US, that the best way to detect a polyp is through hysteroscopy and that I should mention this to the doctor at my next appointment. All I want is a baby, and this has been such an emotional ride for me, I am so confused right now, does anyone have any advice or experiences regarding this, it will be very much appreciated. Thank you!

  1. formerly_bob - A hysteroscope is the gold standard and it would resolve any uncertainty. You may as well see if you can schedule a hysteroscopy - if a polyp is found, it can probably be removed at the same time. This should not be as complicated as it has been for you. Removal of a uterine polyp generally improves fertility.
