On July 1 My Grandpa Had A Bipass Surgery. Today When I Went To Meet Him On September 3 (after 2 Months)...?

396545385 i asked him are you feeling well, then he said, "whenever I have a dry cough, I have pain in my chest." I just want to know, is that good, bad, normal.

  1. Jim 06460389 - Coughing Of any kind after open heart surgery is painful and will be so for most likely 5 or 6 months maybe even longer, because they had to open his chest but also crack the ribs where they join his spine too, Older folks heal slower too.. I would say fairly normal to have some pains.. IF they did his bi pass without opening his chest up, I am sure he'll heal faster, but 2 months is NOT very long... anytime they mess around near your heart there is a chance of illness and infection and stuff.. When I had MY OHS I had pneumonia, having to cough was not pretty...they give you a pillow shaped like a heart you crunch it to your chest when you have to cough, it helps!! IF He didn't get one using a bunch of rags or a regular pillowcase stuffed with something like rags so he can squeeze it will help him past this hard time!!!

  2. gentle soul - If it is a dry cough it could be caused by one of his medications. Ace inhibitors ( angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor) is notorious for causing coughs it is use for blood pressure and other heart problems. He should talk to his doc if it is problematic. If it is more than a dry cough he should see his doc anyway. His chest bones at this point are stable but not completely healed. He should use a pillow to splint his chest when he coughs.
