Is Water Fasting Safe If Done Right?

396545382 I always hear that it isn't good for you and can ruin your metabolism but this website- http://www.fitnessthroughfasting.com/waterfasting.html has a good argument to all of that and is very informative..

And also, when fasting, is the fat or muscle eaten away first? I've heard different things. If it's fat then fasting definitely is not healthy, but I'm not sure. Thanks so much in advance to every answer! :)
:) dan- When you water fast, you don't deprive yourself from water, you drink a lot of it but that's the only thing you consume.

  3. SDC - I have done lot of water fasting. I am getting to the age it is harder now but it is really good to take years off. It also is great spiritual reasons. I think fasting is very healthy . I try to fast once or twice a week for like 24 hours. at times it is longer. Water is great for our systems and most people do not drink enough of it.
Sometimes water alone for days and weeks can begin to give an upset stomach. Be careful of that and drink some water with a little juice either fruit or vegetable if that happens. I hope this has helped!

  4. ClickMaster - Water fasting is a bad idea for anyone under any circumstances. The reason is so obvious it's difficult for me to understand why anyone would ask. Your body needs nutrition for the maintenance of health so how can it possible make any sense to deprive it of that? The obvious answer is, it can't.

Your body is replacing useless depleted cells every second of your life by creating new cells for everything from hair to muscle to skin to organ tissue and on and on. The body you have now does not have any of the original cells it had when you were born. You have been completely replaced at least once. That process requires nutrition to sustain it and without the nutrition you will slowly lose tissues of all sort in all parts of your body. You body will not "eat" muscle but it will not be able to replace muscle tissue and other types of tissue and you will in a short period of time be starving yourself.

There is no natural health benefit to fasting and there are countless possible adverse side effects. Read more about that here --> http://www.livestrong.com/article/331163-water-fasting-side-effects/

Fasting serves no useful purpose from a physiological perspective. It's is the purview of faddists, spiritual kooks, and people trying to make a statement such as self deprivation to create some sort of change. However, for normal people who want to lose fat or get healthy, fasting is a terribly misguided approach.

    Good luck and good health!!
