  1. NYCchickie007 - No. At 13 your still growing. Even though you are not active, you definitely should consume any less. Should consume more actually. Get a little active because as you start getting older, your weight would be maintained. Sedentary lifestyle will just cause you more trouble trust me!

  2. Neil - Too little, 1500 promotes under-eating on protein, which will limit your development, you need the 2000 at your age, just eat protein heavy, and lay off the bread(very important, the yeast, is what clogs you up).

You shouldn't squeeze calories, you should look for the proper balance, it's the healthiest, and most effective, because restricting calories will only lead to weight-issues later on in life.

  3. Betty B - What is your gender?
    Your BMR would be 1,565 calories (Male, 13yo, 5’5 and 122lbs) or 1,429 calories (Female, 13yo, 5’5 and 122lbs).
Your BMR is what you need to be alive because your body is dreaming, digesting, breathing, fighting off bugs with the immune system, repairing and regenerating, pumping blood with the heart, handling oxygen with the lungs, keeping your core temperature constant. Your brain, liver, lungs, heart, kidneys, intestines, all your organs are working 24/7. Even your skin is doing a good job to protect you from germs and stay hydrated.

THEN, you need to eat more calories for physical activities.
You cannot be 13 year-old and sedentary. You should have friends to play with, sports programs and gym at your school, some parents scheduling physical activities for you, either you walk/bike everywhere (that is not being sedentary) or somebody is driving you to your soccer game or martial art session...

You’re only “sedentary” when you’re an old guy in a trailer, playing video games all day long, and living on his retirement or you’re a fat woman with no friends and no job who got dumped by her husband for a woman half his age, and became a hoarder buying stuff online.

But you’re 13 and still growing so you have to eat more for growth (you want to grow taller, don’t you?) especially when having a growth spurt (you get ravenous and should eat everything in sight!).
