Can You Get Your Wisdom Teeth Out Through General Anesthesia If You Breathe Through Your Mouth When You Sleep?

396545381 I'm afraid that I will start breathing through my mouth when they put me to sleep with anesthesia and I will breathe in blood or something :/
@Jessica I actually didn't go under twilight but I know someone who did. I don't know if they put any tube down my mouth during the general anesthesia, but they put oxygen things in my nose for me to breathe and I'm assuming thats the only thing I had. I don't really know though because I was gone haha :) Everything turned out fine though and thanks for answering :)

  1. ℒɑzzy™ - Well when you go in for a consultation, you will be asked to get a
Health Check Up and your Vitals done.

This is thing done by your family/personal doctor who checks:

    -blood pressure
    -lung capacity
    -weight/height
    -how well you breathe.

They also take note of breathing problems and incorporate that
with the oral surgeon and the health care people on site during
    your surgery.

When you are put under (sleeping) they will try to get you to
breathe through your nose.and you won't notice it because you
    are not "there."

I know how you feel but I actually didn't think of it till now.. I breathe
through my mouth when I am sleeping too but the surgery went
fine for my wisdom teeth and I hope yours goes good too.

  2. Jessica - Yes you can, but it would be under twilight anesthesia which is also called conscious sedation. Twilight anesthesia uses the same drugs as general anesthesia but in much smaller doses. With general, they have to put a breathing tube down your throat. With twilight, you can breathe on your own. I went Friday September 2 to an oral surgeon to get an impacted canine extracted. It was my first time ever being under any type of anesthesia besides local injections! The drugs they used on me were Versed and Fentanyl. I was super nervous and worried about a lot of things. I'm sure the nurses and aides in the room with the surgeon use sunction devices to keep that from happening. Just talk to them about all your concerns so they can address it with you and make you feel better. You won't remember a thing once the drugs are administered through your I.V. Atleast I didn't! Good luck! =)
