Can Someone With A History Of Mental Health Problems Refuse Treatment For Cancer?

  1. Braindead Brainiac - Consult an attorney. There are ways for a person to be declared by the courts incapable of caring for themselves and placed under the guardanship of another. I do not know what the conditions are that must be met nor how to proceed, but an attorney would know.

  2. Tiny - Yes, they can refuse treatment. The only exception is if the court has assigned their medical power of attorney to another care taker type person.

  3. jl - Yes, they can sign up with hospice who will bring all the refusal papers you have to sign. You can even state how much treatment you want, like painkillers.
