Can I Use Blood Sugar Testing Strips To Test The Sugar Content Of Juices?

396545384 Like those diabetic strips that attaches to a meter and measures blood sugar - Can they be used to measure sugar content in foods?

If not, I need to find a way to measure the amount of sugar in juices for a science experiment.

PS: I'm in high school so no expensive equipment! Thanks.

  1. You Betcha! - ah, no...

Have you ever looked at the nutritional label? Figure out how to read one properly and you'll figure out the sugar content. The best part is that it comes with the juice so there's no expensive equipment involved.

  3. Carbon Chem - You would probably break the meter doing that. Its designed for measuring mg/dl quantities. Most drinks have closer to g/L quanties, or 1000 mg/dl. You would need to dilute the juice drinks by probably about 10 to 100 fold to get an accurate measurement. Then, you might be able to figure out the amount, since the device is designed to measure the concentration of liquid.
