70 Year Old Father With Type 2 Diabetes Looking For Health Insurance?

396545384 I am petitioning my dad to come live with me here in U.S
he currently lives in UK, has type 2 diabetes and is disabled.
You have to be a PR for at least 5 years before you can get any sort of government assistance - so we can't go down that root.
in UK he receives FREE diabetes care, coz that;s how our health care system is over there in UK. He doesn't have to pay for the meds that he takes or any docs or hospital vists etc....

Which health insurance will cover a 70 year old male with type 2 diabetes??

  1. Flower - I dont know what a PR is but he cannot get government subsidized Medicare for over 65's in the U.S. without paying about $500-$700 a month since he has not contributed to it through taxation and not lived in the U.S. 10 years. It will cover about 80% of the medical bills. He has to pay the remainder.

As you know there is no low cost care except at any community clinic but it is not free. That is his best bet for services as needed, like a prescription for medications. You can get generic medications at Walmart for $4. I dont know what else he needs but when he gets established at a clinic they will help him. The charges are often based on income but not always. Charges are at least half of a private doctor.

In the U.S. unless you are a resident over 65 who is poor you wont get Medicaid.

No one will sell him insurance but if they do, it is not worth it since there is an annual deductible to meet before the insurance covers anything, monthly premiums, and co-payments to providers, and it covers 80% of the cost. He may have to resort to your state high-risk insurance pool.
