Kai - Beets themselves, raw, have only 8 grams of carbs per 3 oz (or a 2" diameter beet), plain cooked per 1/2 cup (3oz) they have 8 carbs. They have a lot of good vitamins and look to be a fairly good-for-you vegetable--even for high blood pressure.
Sugarbeets on the other hand is a whole other vegetable and is what they make table sugar out of so it is high in carbs.
