I have read everything that there is to read about any sort of link between smoking and cancer and it shows that there isn't one case in the world where it has been proven. It does show the ill health that smoking brings but links with cancer are totally unproven. Don't believe me? Then look it upPlease don't tell me about all the other things it can give you as I have read extensively about them all

ReplyDeleteRobin - If you find out how cancer develops please let the rest of the world know...we have been trying to figure it out forever...then we could find a cure. The fact is we know smokers develop cancer of the throat and lungs astronomically more than non-smokers, even more than coal miners. We know some substances are carcinogenic (cause cancer) but no one knows the how question.

Vinsanity - Its the exposure to chemicals, in a chemical reaction (burning), to not a virus. A virus would affect the host much more rapidly, whereas cigarettes' effects come on slowly. Asbestos isnt a virus, but itll give you cancer, too

ReplyDeleteIt is causced by carcinogens, substances that cause cancerous cell mutations.
Tobacco and tobacco smoke is full of them.
Keep in mind that while a direct link is difficult to prove, in cancers like small cell carcinoma 99% of those who develop this cancer are smokers while as few as 15% of the general population are smokers makes the statistics fairly conclusive.
jackie m - I am a smoker so I could agree with what you say that smoking wont give us cancer but if you are right would that not mean that if it is caused by a viral infection then antibiotics would cure it? My cigarettes contains over 4000 chemicals and 69 of them are known to cause cancer? I wont bore you with a list of them but I know it has arsenic, formaldehyde, tobacco, acetic acid, ammonia, methane, etc so if the government put all those chemicals in our drinking and bottled water would you drink it if they don't do us any harm or cause cancer?
