Okay, so I'm getting my braces off on January 2, and I have a few questions!(:
1- does it hurt?
2- what retainers can you get? And can I get zebra print(:?
3- how long does it take?
4- what is the process of getting them off?
5- what was the first food you ate after getting them off?
6- I have an appt on Monday... What will they do? At my last appt they said they wouldn't do adjustments..
7- how long will you have to wear a retainer?
8- can I start my whitening after I get them off?(I'm 13)
THANK YOU!!!(:
Dolly - well on the how long you have to wear a retainer one, the doctor is going to tell you. some people have a perm retainer.
ReplyDeleteBecca - 1) nooope not at all !!
ReplyDelete2) you cant get designs . Its 1 straight wire across your teeth
3) umm i guess everybodys different so not long
4) they just take off the wires and un glue the brackets
5) i think i ate like ice cream..
6) hmm im not sure
7) like i said everyones different im still wearing mine.
8) well whitening at a young age isnt so good but if ur parents say yes then u cud :D
Judah - It doesn't hurt. I got clear retainers and I didn't know you could get different ones. It takes 30 min-1 hour. They take the wire out and pull the brackets off your teeth and then they have to get the glue off your teeth. I never followed the food rules so nothing I didn't eat when I had them on. You will hav to wear a retainer for a long time idk if it's your whole life but my sisters got there's off when they where 15 and they are 20 and still wearing them.
ReplyDeleteChantelle - It is uncomfortable but it doesn't hurt. The orthodontist decides what type of retainer you will use but you can puck the color. Personally, I didn't gave the choice of zebra print but I wouldn't say it is impossible. :) it takes a maximum of 30 minutes. They pull out the wires and then just start pulling the them off. Then they clean up your teeth a little. I ate a cheeseburger after I got mine off. The appointment before they take them off they just want to make sure that everything looks good and you are ready to get them off. The orthodontist will decide how long it will be for the retainer. It is different for everyone. And I am not sure about the teeth whiting. I don't know why you couldn't.
ReplyDeleteforever_faithful121 - 1. The only part that MIGHT hurt is when they pull the bands off your back molars. But I'm just guessing, EVERYTHING hurt really bad when I had my braces.
ReplyDelete2. I think it depends on your orthodontist. You can't get designs, but the place I went to said I could have up to 3 colors swirled together on the traditional, metal retainers. I was also given an Invisalign type of retainer, but it was awful.
3. It shouldn't take too long to get them off - maybe an hour or so? Depends on what kind of cleaning your orthodontist will do.
4. They pretty much just pop the wire out, pop the brackets off your teeth (you'll feel pressure, but it shouldn't hurt), and then they yank the bands off. Cleaning the glue off after and a light cleaning, followed by after care instructions finishes things off.
5. Pretty sure I had pizza because my mouth hurt so bad.
6. They will probably just check things out one last time.
7. Retainers, ideally, should be worn for years after your get them off. PLEASE wear your retainer. My biggest regret in life is not wearing mine. I stopped after a few months because I'm super sensitive and they caused problems. Now my teeth shifted back =(
8. Yeah, I don't see why not.
NicoleH - 1. not at all! :)
ReplyDelete2. You can get hawley (regular metal) essix (invisilign kind) and bonded (permanent retainer) if you get the hawley then yes you can most likely get zebra print on your retainer! :) it just depends on what your orthodontist provides.
3. It takes like 30-45 minutes, depending on how your orthodontist works
4. basically they just pop every bracket off and then scrape the glue off (it doesn't hurt at all)
5. frosted flakes! :P it was breakfast time!
6. probably just a check up see if everything is right to get your braces off since you said you're not getting an adjustment.
7. most likely full time for a month or only at night. it really depends on your personal teeth and what retainers you get etc.
8. yes you can. i would wait about a day for whitening strips but it shouldn't be a big deal!
Zorba - GOOD LUCK!!!!!! I got my braces off yesterday and I also am getting a zebra retainer!
ReplyDelete1. Nope!!!!! It shouldn't hurt a bit. You might feel a bit of pressure as they pop off the brackets, but the only part that could possibly hurt is when they take the back bands off, and if it does, it will hurt less than lightning the braces.
2. It depends on your orthodontist. Mine had almost every color you could imagine, any pattern, or glitter. I chose black and white zebra :)
3. It should not take longer than an hour, mine took less than 30 minutes :D
4. They pop off the brackets, undo the metal bands, scrape off the glue, ale impressions, rinse and polish off any extra glue, done!!!
5. Pizza
6. They just check to make sure everything is good to take them off, change band i colors
7. I was instructed to wear them 24/7 for 6 mo. To 1 year. Then at night only. Most is only 6 months
8. Im 13 also. You should wait at least 2 months to make sure all of the glue is off so you don't get blotchy spots on your teeth.
Good luck!!!!!!! The retainer will feel very weird and you will not like it, but wear it anyway so your teeth don't become crooked again. :D
