About 4 days ago, I noticed 4 or 5 little red dots on my middle left finger, just underneath where I've worn the same ring for years. They're not itchy or painful and they disappear when I put pressure on them. I've taken the ring off but the dots are still there. Could this be an allergy or something more suspicious?
Illya Kuryakin - Could be an allergy to soap or hand-wash, have you changed them lately?
ReplyDeleteAdele - An allergy is defined as an abnormally high sensitivity to certain substances such as food, pollen, microorganisms – normally harmless substances. It is a disorder of the immune system. Allergies have become quite common that statistics show that at least one out of every five Americans suffers from them.
ReplyDeleteThere are two forms of blood testing for allergies. RAST or radioallergosorbent testing involves measuring specific allergic antibodies from a blood sample and is considered by many as outdated. ELISA or enzyme linked immunosorbent assays is a newer form of blood testing for allergy. It involves binding allergic antibodies in a blood sample to an allergen. A developer is added which causes a color change, the darkness of which is measured and then translated into the amount of allergic antibody in the blood sample. Blood testing is more expensive than skin testing. In addition, it can take from a few days to a few weeks for the results of a blood testing to come out.
adam - It is possible but rare for allergies to sporadically appear and disappear throughout a persons life. A normal allergic reaction to contact with the material is a rash which doesn't exactly sound like what you have. Try giving the ring a break or switching fingers and see if the original symptom goes away or switches to the other finger.
