John W - Well, someone that needs blood pretty much needs as normal a blood as possible, without any drugs or anything else unusual so it may not be best for a diabetic to give blood in consideration of the people to receive the blood. Many diabetics won't have enough control for the glucose to be well regulated enough anyways. My H1A1C is 5.5% so it's probably well controlled enough but because of my heart failure, I'm on a pharmacy worth of drugs, I'm sure whomever the recipient of the blood would not be well off with a lot of that medication, could probably kill them. Best not to bother.
Alex - Yes, as long as sugars are reasonably controlled.
ReplyDeleteDarnella Grover - No. Because of the glucose levels and the pancreas not working well or not enough insulin.

ReplyDeleteSrimathi - No diabetic patient cannot donate blood at all,the insulin up take can be altered by blood loss.
