A Question About Colonoscopy Sedatives?

396545116 I have come across quite a few horror stories when it comes to a drug called versed--a drug that makes you forget. One person said that when he was given versed for the colonoscopy he had memories of being in agonising pain but wasn't able to do anything about it at the time. I've heard quite a few stories like this--having vague memories of being in pain but not being able to do anything about it at the time. Is this why doctors give people versed, to stop them remembering the pain so they won't report this to other people? Question: If one drug is given to help with the pain, why on earth do doctors give you another drug to make you forget? Seems very fishy to me. I refuse to have versed or any other drug that makes you forget.

Some people have also reported long term memory loss after using versed. Other people report mood swings for months afterwards. Some people have been badly affected by this drug. I have recently read a book by a doctor who use to work in America and he has a lot to say about hospitals and things that they don't tell their patients.

Your opinion?

  1. Claudia - Versed is used in combination with dormicum allot. All sideeffect can be triggered by the SLEEP/relaxant.

I had to have a colonoscopy, and I will never, ever, ever, ever have one again. Ever!

I did not have 'verse' and do not know of it, but I agree with you. What is the point? Surgery is surgery

Some day I will tell my story. It's a Nightmare.

  3. arnie g - In fact, many people who use Versed for "conscious sedation" during a procedure are awake for the entire procedure but remember nothing, often believing they were "out" the whole time.

Versed (Midazolam) is an amnestic. It is commonly administered in combination with anesthesia before and during surgery. It is also commonly used for minor procedures like colonoscopies dental procedures like extractions, conscience sedation so that patients won't remember pain and discomfort. However, that does not mean that those sensations will not be experienced.

. There is a blog that has some more info that would be interesting
