How Long Until I Know I'm Allergic To A Medication?

396545383 Ive been taking a medication for a little over 3 weeks, and about a week ago I started to notice a small rash on my chest, I figured it was from a new bra I got, which I ended up not washing before wearing it, because my other one broke at work. So about 3 days ago, this rash became a lot worse, swollen red bumps, hives, for sure an allergic reaction. I seen a doctor at emergency and he said, more than likely it was the bra, even though I stopped wearing it for the last week. I have also not taken the medication for about 3 days now. I'd really like to eventually start taking them again, but I just want to be pretty sure that it's not them causing this nasty thing that is on my chest (also note, it is only on the middle of my chest, where my bra was would rub against me, and its worked its way up a little, not too much though.) So would it take this long for these pills to kick in with an allergic reaction?

If the rash goes away or gets better, then you know it was due to the bra. If it doesn't get better a few days after you've changed your bra, then you know it was the medication.

It sounds like the emergency doctor is correct there was something on the bra that did not react well with your skin and even though you are not wearing it now the clothing that you are wearing could cause it to stay irritated. Try not to wear any clothing material near the infected area as much as possible that will reduce the amount of friction on the area.

Get a doctor to check it out...

  5. james_dav_bmcg - there is a huge variation in that. some people it's less than 30 miinutes, others it's 2-3 weeks or so. i was taking an injectable medication for 9 years once week before i became allergic to it.
