If it is moderate alcohol. You will gain weight because it is pure sugar. They say 1 glass of red wine daily helps with digestion and has antioxidants. But I really don't know for sure about the wine.

Nana Lamb - Beer or wine needs to be taken during a meal or with snacks!! It will initially raise glucose, then drop it into the basement. Anyone not knowing you are diabetic may mistake Hypo for drunkenness and toss you in the drunk tank rather than the ER and you could die. So don't try to control glucose that way.
The only thing that helps you to lose weight or fat is exercise and low carb food plan. Alcohol sure won't do it!! If anything it adds to the weight and fat problem even when lowering glucose numbers.
John W - Alcohol will temporarily lower the glucose level then it would increase it. The extra glucose that it eventually gets turned into will probably wind up stored as fats. Really counter productive if you're trying to lose glucose and fats.
Zelda - No as alcohol is metabolized as sugar; if anything, it increases your blood sugar level
