Do I Have A Shellfish Allergy?

396545383 I know you guys are going to say go see a doctor, but my entire family thinks I'm overreacting when I tell them. So, I was wondering if maybe I had an allergy to shellfish? Every time I even smell it cooking, my throat starts to get tighter, somewhat like when you're about to cry and I get nausea. If I eat it my throat gets worse and I throw up 9 times out of 10 and if I don't throw up my nausea gets ten times worse. The shellfish I'm most commonly exposed to is shrimp, and even if my dad cooks with it and he "picks it out" I still get nauseous and my throat tightens. So, I'm pretty sure I'm allergic but my parents think I overreact every time I tell them, so I would just like someone else's opinion on it. Thanks in advance! :)

  1. army_corp - I am thinking you are allergic. Most people do not think of it. Odor is the first line of defense in your body. So even if you are not eating it the smell can trigger your allergy responses. When I walk in to certain restraunts my nose will get stopped up, and I will get a little nauseated. This is because of my allergies. Especially if they have just finished cleaning with something that has bleach in it. I do suggest you go do the allergy doctor to get tested. This is stop your parents from saying that you are overreacting.
