Can Bad News Cause A Heart Attacks?

396545385 well i'm pregnant. & i'm only 15 (yes bad i know). my boyfriend wants me to get an abortion because he's afraid of telling his dad. he says that when he tells him he's gonna get a heart attack & die. his dad does have a bad heart (it's an enlarged something & he could have a heart attack but he's on medication) & i'm 110% against getting an abortion. i would much rather give him/her up for adoption. but is it possible to DIE from bad news.

  1. Andrew - yes, it's rare but it can happen but the more important issue is will YOU be alive in the process of giving birth to this baby?

  2. nochocolate - Doubt that he will die from hearing you are pregnant but I guess it is possible. At 15, I guess I can understand you saying it's bad news but on the other hand, a baby is sometimes thought of as good news! Adoption is a good choice.

  3. Blossom Girl - Yeah!It is possible as it may lead to increase in the blood pressure and it forces the heart to pump more and thus creates stress on the heart and leads to heart failure

  4. lydia d - It's possible. Stress raises blood pressure and high blood pressure forces the heart to work a lot harder putting extra strain on it. It's rare but it's possible.
That said - it should not have an impact on your deciding to have this baby or not. And I'm not saying your boyfriend is lying about being worried about his dad but it is still a pretty cheap shot isn't it - "you have to kill this baby otherwise my dad will die"

Let your boyfriend deal with his dad, I'm sure there's a way of letting him know without causing him to be too upset and it'll probably help if you just keep out of his dad's way for a while and let your boyfriend handle how and when he wants to tell him.
But as for the baby this is your decision. Deciding to raise the baby is yours and your boyfriend's decision but deciding to have an abortion can only be yours as it is your body. Do not let anyone bully you into doing something you've already decided is against your personal code of ethics.
