matador 89 - Ray J, When there are blockages due to fatty deposits and calcification in the arteries supplying the legs and feet, often referred to as peripheral artery disease (PAD), this can cause cramps and pain while walking and sometimes even while at rest. The leg pain, or claudication, comes from insufficient blood flow to leg muscles. When considering lower extremity angioplasty, atherectomy and stenting, a procedure that may be performed before angioplasty and stenting is atherectomy. This procedure uses either a laser catheter to vaporize the plaque, or a “shaver” on the end of the catheter to remove a portion of the plaque inside an artery.

gentle soul - All things are based on 2 things. Skill of MD and vessel disease. Where are the blockages and what type of plaque it is? Where the blockage is and how easily it is reached with the catheters and equipment. Is it soft plaque that is easily pushed to the side then stunted or calcified/hardened plaque that could possibly rupture something when handled? PS how many centers do lasers? since it takes different equipment and skilled technicians?
