I should add that I have high cholesterol, triglycerides and my HDL/LDL is too high/low as well, both are off. My fastings run about 100 to 117 but pretty consistent at 100 every morning and depending on whagt I eat before I go to bed.
Last night I foolishly had a double hamburger with bacon on it, some fries and a diet coke but I think what through me over was the milk too and two hours later my blood sugar was 159 and this morning fasting was 110...I was really bummed cause i've been doing so good at keeping it 101 and under and even down to 96, so yeah not a smart choice last night but I was starving and it was the best that I could do for that moment.
My fasting blood sugars run between 96 and 117. My after meals usually run under 145 unless I "slip" then it can go as high as 171, thankfully that is mostly if I eat ice cream/cake/spaghetti sauce, you know all the good stuff...
I am currently starting on Metformin 250 and working my way up to 500 mgs once a day but not the long acting one yet..
syl c. - Insulin Resistance-linked obesity is often an underlying cause of both Pre-Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome (Syndrome X). The latter disorder can lead to Cardiovascular Disease and may result in a heart attack or stroke.
ReplyDeleteMen and women with Pre-Diabetes are vulnerable to developing Metabolic Syndrome, a cluster of cardiovascular disorders characterized by a person having at least three of the following symptoms:
Excess abdominal fat - in men this means a 40-inch waist or larger, in women 35 inches or larger
High blood sugar - at least 110 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dl)
High triglyceride levels - at least 150mg/dl in the blood stream
Low HDL "good" cholesterol - less than 40 mg/dl in men and 50 mg/dl in women.
Blood pressure of 130/85 or higher .
PCOS polycystic ovarian syndrome has also been linked to metabolic syndrome and can cause infertility.
Diet and exercise are both essential in managing metabolic syndrome. It is very hard to not give in to temptation once in a while but at least you are aware of the complications of a bad diet are to your health. Not a smart choice but smart in being aware of the bad food choice and sticking to a good diet. Hey, we all slip once in a while.
Hope this helps.
ckngbbbls - none of the meat, protein or dairy items effect blood sugar in any way. Neither does fat.
ReplyDeleteCarbohydrates do. The bun and fries in particular.
You have to keep in mind that depending on the severity of your diabetes, even if you followed your diet exactly right, your blood sugar can still vary quite a bit.
My husband was diabetic and had to adjust his insulin every few days. He was a liver transplant patient and some of his anti rejection drugs effected his blood sugar levels.
You might be on some medication that is doing the same thing.
Also, level of activity makes a HUGE impact on blood sugar.
We did a paper route for exercise and when we started doing that, his blood sugar levels dropped much lower, he was able to take less insulin and he felt much better.
Take these questions to your doctor. Only he/she is qualified to give you a truly intelligent answer. This is important for you.
You never did say if you actually are diabetic or using someone elses blood testing equipment because you are curious.
Be careful.
buffalo - There are 4 key steps to controlling glucose levels :
ReplyDelete1) EXERCISE- Walking is fine but Nordic Walking is Great. Exercise also lowers Glucose levels , lowers Cholesterol and lowers Blood Pressure. Google it.Exercise is Non-Negotiable !!!Thats why it is Number 1 on the list.
2) Knowledge- http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/index.ph… This is a great site for info
3) Meds. Metformin to start. Never , ever take Actos or Avandia. They may kill you. Bone fractures, heart problems and what diabetics really don't need is that they change Bone Stem Cells to Fat Cells. Also never ever take Onglyza or Januvia . They can can inhibit the bodys immune system and let cancer spread.
4) Diet- A low carb diet is in order. I can't count carbs so I use Mendosa's Glycemic Index Diet. Great for the whole family. http://www.mendosa.com/gilists.htm
I would act as if I was a full blown diabetic.
