I was sick and stressed out and my doctor had me take two fasting blood sugar tests (different days). The results were between 108-110. I bought an AccuCheck and have been testing daily in the mornings when I wake up and my sugar levels are under 90. I was stressed out last night/this morning (to the point of having palpitations, etc.) and my blood sugar was 106. My doctor said I was prediabetic, but is it my stress that is causing a spike of glucose? Every time I test myself in the mornings when I'm not stressed my levels are normal.
Please
help... I'm worrying! I'll give best answer.
Steve B - stress and fever and dehydration can all cause...recheck when better and do A1C test also.............
ReplyDeletehuman - Normal fasting blood sugar is from 70-110.
ReplyDeleteYes, stress can elevate your sugar level because when you stressed there is a hormone released in your body called Adrenaline(epinephrine) this hormone block the action of the insulin(the action of insulin is break down the sugar & try to maintain the normal level of sugar in blood) So when the insulin is blocked the sugar will not break down and the sugar level will raised in your blood.
by the way the Adrenaline caused palpitations.
hope you get well soon.
Monica Robinson - oh man! I get the palpitations like crazy too when I get stressed out!
ReplyDeleteDepending on what you eat before going to bed can affect your BS in the morning so eat some low carb, protein stuff before going to bed and see if that makes any difference. Last night I foolishly had cereal and milk before going to bed, my BS was 105 this a.m., the night before, I smartly ate hamburger and some mixed veggies before going to bed and my fasting that morning was 96, so be careful what you eat the night before going to bed. Stress will definitely raise blood sugar as well. I've seen in when I wake up with palpitation and when I dont. Some times I wake up with adrenaline rushes and I know it will be high, other times I wake up feeling normal and it is normal too. so watch what you eat before going to bed, stay relaxed as possible and enjoy life!
Oh I forgot to mention this thingy called the dawn phenonmenon (spelling), it is when you wake up and your BS can be one number and an hour later it will be higher, this is normal, so check as soon as you wake up, do not wait an hour to test and see if that changes anything..
