How Do You Become A Dental Hygientist?

dental I want to know what classes to take in high school, I'm a sophomore (but I'm planning on duel enrolling next year and graduating next year). Also, what classes to take in community college before I go to a dental hygiene program.
Oh! What is the difference between the 2 and 4 year dental hygiene programs?

  1. grandpa walleye - Take a dot of science courses. Go to your community college and they will give you the requirements needed for their 2 year program in dental hygiene. With a 4 year program, you will graduate with a bachelors degree in dental hygiene. A 2 year program will not give you this. The only difference is that with the bachelors degree, you would be able to teach hygiene if you would ever want to. Otherwise starting salaries are pretty even for both options. Good luck

  2. Erica - Take all health courses in high school and obviously the core classes.
For comm college- they should have a "career ladder" explaining what classes you need to take in order to apply into a dental program. The difference between the 2 & 4 year programs is that the 2 year program is accelerated and you will graduate much faster. The 4 year track is a slower paced program for people who have full time jobs, kids, etc.

    Nice career choice ;)
