  1. Poppy - Your boyfriend has diabetes, but his pancreas is over producing insulin. He needs to watch his diet, eat frequently and get exorcise. It can and if he does no watch his diet, likely will turn into traditional diabetes. A little education and the two of you are good to go!

Nana Lamb - He should be eating the same amount of carbs at each of 5 or 6 small meals a day to keep ;his glucose levels the same! 1/3 each of carbohydrates, fats and protein at each meal with no sugary things at all to spike his glucose levels. The minute he spikes even a tiny bit over the normal levels, his system will shoot out enough insulin to cause him to crash bigtime!!

He should never miss one of these mini meals and he should never be without a good balanced snack either.

He can or not take a vitamin supplement, I take a once daily multi-vitamin because I do restrict rather severely any and all "complex carbs" in what I eat.

  4. Gary B - The BEST treatment for HYPOGLYCEMIA ia a properly balanced, nutritious diet. AND one that includes at least three meals a day.

Skipping meals can be DEADLY to someone with Hypoglycemia.

  5. Emmy Kay - He needs to eat regularly, and eat protein. That means meat, cheese, eggs or beans. It must be solid food, liquid protein like milk won't help.

He can have carbohydrates (like bread, rice and potatoes) and sugar (like candy) but if he wants to avoid hypoglycemic attacks, he must only eat these with protein or after a high-protein meal.

Alcohol must be considered a sugar, so he should only drink when he's had food.

He should carry some candy with him. If he has a low blood sugar attack, he should eat the candy, and then go get a real meal as soon as possible.

And HYPOglycemia means LOW blood sugar. Diabetes is HIGH blood sugar. These are two different things.
