  2. Dr Demento - Shop around at your local pharmacies! Our cat is diabetic, and we are able to get his insulin from our mom and pop style pharmacy downtown. I shopped around, and it was MUCH cheaper there than at Walmart pharmacy or other chain drugstores. We, too, looked at PetMeds or one of those online deals and you're right--with the overnight shipping required that ate up any cost savings.

Does your dog use human insulin? If not, perhaps your vet can change his prescription. We found the cost for human insulin as opposed to cat insulin to be a lot cheaper, plus easier to get.

We also get his needles at the local pharmacy. Best price we could find! People always assume that the little stores are more expensive, but not in every case....and we get a little break for not having insurance...
You must have a large dog to have to go through so much insulin in a week! Ours lasts a couple of months...he only get 5 units, twice daily. If I remember right, his insulin is about $40 for one of those little bottles.

  3. Cammie - Human insulin is not made from humans .It is a synthetic insulin and and would most likely be prescribed for any animal with diabetes.
It is hard to even find animal insulin any where because the human insulin works much better.
