How Many Days A Week Should I Be Going To The Gym? *10 Pts 5 Stars To Best Answer*?

396545382 I used to go to the gym five times a week, but that was when I was only working parttime (around 25 hours a week).

I work fulltime at a call center now (usually early in the morning too) and I just want to lay down when I get home...But I know I need to get motivated to haul my **** to the gym.

Keep in mind that I need to lose about 80lbs. When I do go to the gym, I usually stay for about an hour (30 mins of cardio & 30 mins of strength training).

How many days a week should I ideally be going?

  1. Sweet little Kandy - you dont HAVE to go to the gym. you can do at home exercises.

its all about what you eat: 80% diet 20% excercise.

just dance in your room, jump rope, walk, stretch, workout chanels, Brazilian butt lift (order for 20$)

personally i cant STAND the gym, i feel bad in it, loll and i like to work out in my PJs.

workout 5 times a week for half an hour :)

  2. Aviation747 - To lose weight, atleast 3 days per week. Ideally, more.

If you are truly motivated to lose weight, you will find the time. I have 3 part-time jobs (not all give same hours per week though), full time university student, on 3 student societies, on 2 committees, I have 2 council positions within my societies, I volunteer at the SPCA (rescue shelter for abused animals), I'm a research assistant, and I'm doing my thesis. I still workout an hour each day. Yeah, it sounds like I'm very busy, which I am often. And sometimes if I workout, that means I don't get to relax. But I had to change my thinking. I thought, "what's more important to me, an hour to work out, or an hour to (for example) watch TV?" Well, exercise is obviously more important. But for motivation, I started to think of exercise as my recreational/relaxation/de-stress/just stop thinking and HAVE FUN time. So just like sitting and watching TV is enjoyable, exercise is too---in fact, much more so!!! Plus, I get to keep healthy exercising, while watching tv, ah, not so much.

So, 3+ times per week is best for weight loss. 3-4 for weight maintenance is usually sufficient. More exercise is better, of course, unless you're getting pathological about it (obsessive). Maybe start out with 3x for 1 month, then the next month work up to 3-4 times per week (depending on the week), then on the third month work out 4x per week, and so on, until you reach a level you're comfortable at.

Honestly, exercise is addicting, Sometimes, I feel I need to stop myself because I have other commitments. I'm sure once you get into it again, you'll feel the same way!!!

Been exercising 7 days per week for 9 months straight. LOVE LOVE LOVE it.

Have a great day! =) Good luck! =)
