  2. Sharon - ChemoAng's answer is very informative. The only real problem I had with my bag after I returned home was gas. I had no pain from gas, but the bag will expand too quickly and break the seal of the ostomy bag. Even though the ostomy bags have a release valves expressly to avoid that disaster, just be aware.

The only other bad experience I had was when I was in ICU and had a jerk nurse. It was an emergency admission. When my bag was full, this nitwit got a urine bag and put that on me. He then got angry because I soiled the bed. Fortunately he was the only medical jackass I have run into in my five years with stage 4 ovarian cancer that metastasized into the colon.

I went back to work with the colostomy bag and worked with it until I had my reconstruction surgery 8 months later.
