Second Small Solid Ovarian Cyst After 7 Years?

396545116 hello, i have had an small solid ovarian cyst for about 6 or 7 years. after 4 or 5 years at the same or smaller size (it started at about 23 mm. and then 2 years ago it was at 19mm) i didn't follow it so closely. today i returned to the gynocologist. i'd been feeling tired, so another specialist just as a generalization asked if I had been to the gynocologist recently. so i went back today. and there are now two cysts, both smaller, but the total is bigger. (15-17 mm each) or maybe it could have split in two. as it hadn't bugded in 5 years it seemed not to be cancerous, but she seemed to have some concern-wants me to go to get an MRI. i have to go around the beginning of my cycle, which means either tomorrow (saturday-if i can get an appointment) or wait a month. that's kind of stressful and worrysome. usually such scares are nothing, but i guess as we get older there's more of a risk that that will eventually be something. i'm 48 and i know of a few people who've had ovarian cancer. my step mother just died of it a few months ago, my older sister is followed about her ovaries...etc.

i know that 5 years to grow indicates it's not cancer and yet if the doc is now asking for more tests, that means she does feel unsure. i know that usually when ovarian cancer is discovered it's already at an advanced stage 3 cancer...

that would be a bummer. i live alone, split with my ex 7 months ago, have no kids, my family lives on another continent...

any thoughts, ideas, wisdom? thanks!

  1. Marie K - Hopefully this is just CYA for the MD to be sure she is not missing anything. I know it is hard but remember the chance of this small thing being anything is even smaller than the cyst. Best to do the tests and know, and most likely what you will know is this is of no concern.
