Is It Possible To Get Rid Of A Mild Food Allergy?

396545383 Ok so here is my problem. Whenever i eat peanut butter(peanutbutter cookies etc.) the back of my throat gets slightly itchy and same for the tip of my tongue. and my lip kinda is warm XD but nothing with my skin and breathing. it's been like this most of my life. I want to eat peanut butter without my tongue slightly itching. Peanut butter smells kinda like wood & a spice(i dont know how else to describe it) so my question is Can I desensitize my body to peanutbutter? like eat a peanut butter cookie a day? would this work? My allergy is not major or deadly it doesnt even cause hives. i have no other allergys other than this. Any other way to get rid of it? :)
i have to take a benadrill (idk how to spell it ) when i eat chinese food because they use peanut oil to cook in but like i said its only a slightly itchy tounge nothing bad.
LOL im not even that allergic

  1. OwlBear - You should consult an allergist or ENT doctor. Note that food allergies that make your throat itch can be EXTREMELY dangerous! If you just happen to develop a stronger allergy or have a stronger-than-usual reaction one day, your throat can start to swell. Once your throat swells, it cuts off air flow to your lungs. I would hate to die that way, it would be terrible not being able to breathe.

  2. *Blush* - If you know you have even a mild allergy, you should avoid that food! Allergies have a tendency to get really intense pretty suddenly. I used to have the same mild reaction you get but always ignored it too. One day I ended up in the hospital...
Allergies don't clear up. Your body thinks you just ingested poison and is going to react accordingly. There's no fixing it, only a controlled diet can help

  3. Danny - There is. The best way to do this is to eat as much peanut butter as possible. Remember that your body needs to build up a tolerance to the allergen, and this is the only way to do it. Don't worry if your throat or tongue starts to swell. The only way to counteract this is to take in more of the allergen.

  4. Stoked - Danny is a moron, there is no cure for allergies. If you don’t want the symptoms, you have to avoid what you’re allergic to. Allergies get worse over time not better, you are lucky you don’t have a serious allergy, but keep in mind it could get worse, if you start to developed breathing difficulties you should cut out peanut from your diet altogether.

  5. JUST ME - no...you can't get rid of allergies..there is no cure for them..just treatments..which is usually Benadryl and for worse ones Benadryl & Predisone
the specialists I have seen over the last 50 years have all said...avoidance is the best way to deal with allergies
an itchy tongue isn't a slight reactions..it is borderline severe ...stop eating anything with peanut oil or peanut butter..it will only get worse..it can be deadly too... your body reacts to the IeG proteins...it's like filling a bag with water..it can hold just so much..then add more and it over flows..
I have had 5 immunology series and all my slight allergies are now severe..I have a cousin who has 2 series and now he goes into an anaphylaxic reaction & passes out within seconds
stay away from foods you react to ...itchy means you have hives..that's considered severe when you get them...they can close off you airway so you can't breath
