How To Prevent Diabetes?

396545384 I'm looking for ways to prevent diabetes. I only have sugar foods on special occasions and I drink water and a drink called My-wadi. Its where you put in a small put of orange and fill the rest with water. I also exercise lots and am In Sea Scouts so I do lots of canoeing and rowing. I also take boxing classes every Friday. So do you think I'm doing well or should I cut back? P.S if you have diabetes can you have children?

  1. Tawfeeq - just don't take sugar at breakfast time and you will be OK
take sugar in dessert after dinner
with all that canoeing and rowing you need sugar

  2. Jason - Tawfeeq, your answer is completely wrong.

Sugar is very bad for your body and is the easiest way to get diabetes. You will get more than enough energy sources from eating a well balanced diet.

  3. TheOrange Evil - Jason, you're completely wrong. Sugar does not cause diabetes. Also, if we're going to argue that any particular food can cause diabetes, then why just sugar? Why not carbohydrates as a whole?

Type 2 diabetes is highly genetic. Age also plays a large role - most people who are diagnosed are over the age of 45. Although most Type 2 diabetics are overweight at diagnosis, the fact is that most overweight people in the world do not have diabetes. If a high-carbohydrate diet is giving people who are otherwise not genetically prone diabetes, then we should really be seeing more diabetics in the West.

  4. Tabea - The two most important risk factors for Type 2 diabetes are genes and age. So if you think there is a way you can change either of these - go ahead.

Diabetes is not caused by what you eat, or by eating too much sugar. Or by being inactive. In fact there are many thin, fit, active people who still get Type 2 diabetes.
