Abscess Or Infection?

I know an abscess is an infection, but could there be anything OTHER than an abscess? My cheek has been swollen for 2 days now, it is Sunday and my appt. is Wednesday. I have some symptoms of an abscessed tooth but I'm confused because the tooth is not sensitive to hot or cold, and I do not have a bump filled with puss...

What else could this be? The tooth at this point no longer hurts, it's more like the inside of my lip or something, hard to explain, but no bump on my gums.

What could be going on?
It sure as hell feels like an abscess!
